About the Gold Coast

The Gold Coast is a coastal city in Queensland, Australia. It is 66 kilometers south-southeast of the state capital Brisbane and it borders New South Wales.

The Gold Coast is a major tourist destination with a sunny, subtropical climate and has become widely known for its world-class surfing beaches. The city also features high-rise buildings that line the skyline, theme parks that are among the best in Australia, nightlife venues which make it famous to locals as well as guests alike. Alongside these things are rainforest hinterland where many people go on their hiking adventures or weekend getaways.

This is why the Gold Coast is known as the fun and entertainment capital of Australia, with many attractions to choose from. If you’re looking for a more relaxing experience than what’s on offer with a beachfront view, one option is to take in some sights by boat! It’s certainly the way that locals recommend taking in all the natural beauty by cruising around the canals and Broadwater.

Canals

Much of the land between the coastal strip and hinterland once consisted of swamps, but over time they were converted into man-made waterways (over 260 kilometres in length or 9 times as long as Venice’s canals) and artificial islands covered with expensive homes. The heavily developed coast sits on a narrow barrier sandbar bordered by these waterways and sea.

Most of the canals in Gold Coast are extensions to the Nerang River, but there are more south along Tallebudgera Creek and Currumbin Creek and north along the Gold Coast Broadwater. There is also one extending from South Stradbroke Island, Coomera River and Moreton Bay in southern Queensland.

The city has 70 kilometres of coastline with some of the most popular surf breaks in Australia and the world, including South Stradbroke Island, The Spit, Main Beach Surfers Paradise Broadbeach Mermaid Beach Nobby’s Beach Miami North Burleigh beach Burleigh Heads Tallebudgera Beach Palm beach Currumbin Lagoon Tugun Bilinga North Kirra Greenmount Rainbow Bay Snapper Rocks Froggies.

Tourism

The Gold Coast area is visited by 10 million tourists annually: 3.5 million international, 5.8 domestic and 800 thousand daytrip visitors each year. Tourism is the region’s biggest industry and contributes more than $4 billion into the city economy every year with approximately 60 kilometers of beachfront, 600 kilometers of canal system, 100 thousand hectares of nature reserve land as well as 500 restaurants and 40 golf courses all within close vicinity to one another on top of five major theme parks such as Dreamworld or Movie World Park that are located in this region too!

Gold Coast Airport connects across Australia with international flights. Airlines include Flyscoot, Jetstar, Qantas, Air New Zealand, Virgin Australia and Airasia X. Brisbane is less than an hour from the center of Gold Coast via direct trains from the airport to Central Station in Brisbane City.

Some of the most popular tourist attractions include surf beaches, and theme parks including Dreamworld, Sea WorldWet’n’Wild Water WorldWarner Bros. Movie WorldWhiteWater WorldTopgolfCurrumbin Wildlife SanctuaryDavid Fleay Wildlife Park, Australian Outback Spectacular, and Paradise Country.
